Sauna Makes You Beautiful
Beauty benefits of sauna bathing
Regular sauna sessions can perform miracles to your skin, cleansing the pores and improving circulation. The heat and the sweating also stimulate the production of collagen, which gives your skin a more youthful appearance. One session in the sauna might not have a lot of impact, but if you turn regular sauna baths into a habit you will soon see a difference in your complexion. A great tip is to apply your moisturizer while your skin is still damp from showering.
Optimize your exercise with sauna
Did you know that by increasing the body temperature regularly, you can actually generate dramatic improvements in muscular growth and endurance*? When your body is subjected to heat, it gradually becomes used to it, which prompts a number of beneficial changes in your body. One of them is an increased plasma volume and blood flow to your heart and muscles, which gives both an increase in athletic endurance and increased muscle mass.
Sauna - your own private spa at home
Having your own sauna at home, you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life whenever you feel like it.
Just imagine: no more need for expensive spa-weekends or visits to the beauty salon – with your own sauna you can have it all in the comfort of your own home. Why not give your whole bathroom a spa makeover!
With fresh towels, scented candles and luxurious soaps, spending an evening in will feel like the most tempting option of all.
You don’t need a big bathroom
You don’t need a big bathroom in order to enjoy the benefits of sauna bathing. Even if you live in a tiny city apartment, there is probably enough room to fit a small sauna. The smallest models take up almost no space – about 16 square feet- and they are so much easier to install than you think. A personal sauna is the perfect way to add a sense of luxury to your compact living.

Varberg Spa Resort: Panacea and Tylarium
Varberg Spa Resort is beautifully situated right on the beach, and the sea and nature has set the tone for this resort’s new Thalasso spa. The close proximity to the sea affects every aspect of this venue, from the small open-air swimming-pool´s location at the waterfront to the menu served in the restaurant. In their classic sauna section, Varbergs Kusthotell has installed the TylöHelo Panacea-model. By using Tylarium, a Soft Sauna venue has been created as a relaxing intermission between the various treatments.
The rock star’s sauna
Collaborating with a designer, we created a small leasure center in the basement of a historic country house, owned by a well-known artist and rock star. In the irregular and confined space we created a custom made sauna and a steam room which was combined with a large copper bath along with a massage table and dressing room. The whole project was managed by TylöHelo, who lined out the irregular space which also contained a winding stair case. Custom Bizazza tiling, glazing and lighting set the mood for this unique and one-off sauna and steam solution.
The Essence of Sauna Culture
People have always enjoyed heat
People all over the world have always enjoyed heat in different ways, using everything from saunas and steam rooms to banyas and hammams to feel better, look better and to spend time relaxing with loved ones. The modern sauna of today merges a lot of these traditions, bringing all the benefits of heat and steam into your home – so you can enjoy them daily.
Löyly and why true sauna tradition involves water
Löyly (pronounced low-lu) is an important part of the traditional sauna experience. Löyly means throwing small amounts of water on the hot sauna stones to create a warm and soothing steam. The steam rapidly increases the sensation of heat as well as the humidity of the sauna room, bringing pleasure as well as health benefits.
The whisk - to wake up the body
You know that story about Finnish people hitting each other with birch branches in the sauna? Well, it’s true. And it’s great! The whisk (vihta or vasta in Finnish) is made from young birch twigs and forms an integral part of traditional Finnish sauna bathing. The idea is to beat the skin lightly with the whisk in order to stimulate blood circulation, and to release the fresh and invigorating birch aroma.
Finnish sauna etiquette
- The sauna is a place for physical and mental cleansing. Keep your voice low and act calmly.
- Being invited to someone’s sauna is an honor. Don’t say no unless you have a really good reason.
- In Finland, the custom is to bathe naked, but if you are more comfortable in a swimming suit, that’s ok as well.
- Always be polite, and don’t swear or use bad language in the sauna.
- Last but not least: remember to always drink plenty of water!
